Readme for AGP busmanager loader kerneldriver V2
Version 2:
Does not abort AGP setup anymore if a device is already programmed for it. Now assures all devices are already setup before aborting (ATI IGP update)
NOTE PLEASE:
You use this software at your own risk! Although I don't expect it to damage your PC, videocard or Monitor, I cannot guarantee this!
Supported hardware:
- All hardware the AGP busmanager supports.
Features:
- Sets up AGP mode according to the AGP busmanager's agp.settings file on all supported AGP devices.
Notes:
- This works independantly from the graphicsdriver(s) controlling the graphicscard(s) in your system, if any.
- If your graphicsdriver does setup AGP mode itself, it's settings will overrule the settings done by this helper kerneldriver, so it's redundant then.
- Only in some cases will setting up AGP actually speedup unaccelerated graphics being drawn: your graphicscard and motherboard hostbridge need to support at least AGP2.0 and PCI fastwrites (FW). Also you need to be running a graphicsdriver which uses 'MTRR writecombining (WC)' for mapping the framebuffer to virtual memory. B/W and VESA2.0 mode unfortunately don't use this, so no speedup there...
Installation:
This driver will install in the user part of the BeOS, so not in the system part where the official drivers are.
BeOS first checks (during boot) if there are 'user-addons' that should be loaded for a device. If not, it loads it's own add-ons (if any). You can select if this driver should be loaded by hitting the spacebar as soon as the BeOS 'icons' screen appears. If you select disable user addons the system will not load it or other 'user-addons'. If you don't do anything, the system will load this driver.
Note: This might turn out to be handy if you run into trouble upon testing the driver...
actual INSTALLATION:
Unzip the zip file that contains the driver to the root folder. Now reboot and you should be using the driver.
DE-INSTALLATION:
Currently there's no uninstall script included. Just do it manually:
Delete the agp.driver file in home/config/add-ons/kernel/drivers/bin/
Delete the agp.driver shortcut in home/config/add-ons/kernel/drivers/dev/graphics/ which pointed to the file agp.driver.
You have to reboot in order to apply the original configuration.
